CLAYPOOL — The Claypool Town Council continued a discussion on parking issues during its meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

During the council’s regular October meeting, resident Jamie Archer addressed council members on parking issues on Main Street. Archer said four parking spaces at the end of the street had no signage that stated no general parking was allowed. Council members held an administrative meeting on Oct. 24 to further discuss the issue.

“We talked about either doing spots at each end or going back to an ordinance,” said Council Member Gene Warner. “We’re leaning toward the regular ordinance that’s in place, which is business parking only on Main Street.”

Council Member Liz Heiman asked if business parking applies to those who rent out apartments in town that are on Main Street.

“We asked (Town Attorney) Travis (Neff) that, and Travis didn’t think so because it’s not technically a business,” said Council President Niki Miller.

Miller said a final resolution regarding parking issues on Main Street has not been made and that the topic will be tabled until December so that Neff can be present at the meeting for further discussion.

During the meeting, Town Marshal Ben Sanders also reminded the public of the town’s burn ordinance.

“Two weeks ago, Claypool Fire Department was called out on several different burn complaints,” said Sanders. “We had people burning carpet, mattresses, and big piles of leaves. Copies of burn ordinances were handed out to residents and no fines were issued since they hadn’t seen a copy of the ordinance yet. The minimum fine is $250 if the fire department is called out.”

Sanders also said he recently issued a couple of ordinance violations for parking on Main Street. No parking is allowed between 4 and 6 a.m. from Nov. 1 through April 1 on streets due to snow removal.

The council also:

• Approved paying Mark Brubaker $400 for work he did for the wastewater department while town employee Danny Warner was absent due to medical leave.
• Approved paying Monteith’s Best One Tire & Auto Care Warsaw $2,356.15 and $936.24 for maintenance and repairs to two town vehicles.

The council’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17.
