William E. ‘Jack’ Caudill
William E. “Jack” Caudill, 89, of Silver Lake, Ind., passed away at 8:52 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, at his home.
He was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Leander, Ky., to James W. and Bessie (Carpenter) Caudill. On June 10, 1942, he married Goldia Lena Caudill.
He had worked at Pierceton Trucking of Laketon, Ind., and had owned Manchester Lanes of North Manchester, Ind. Jack taught school in Kentucky after his military service.
He graduated from high school and college in Kentucky and was a World War II Navy Veteran serving on the U.S.S. Benevolence Medical Ship. He was on the first ship to Japan when the war was over.He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW of North Manchester, Ind. He enjoyed gold mining.
Jack is survived by two daughters: Linda Sue Butler, Hartzel, Colo; and Sharon (Leonard) Walton, Nancy, Ky.; two sons: David (Kay) Caudill, Warsaw, Ind.; and Jackie (fiancé Pam Craig) Caudill, Akron, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Mayme Alice Chapman, Chesapeake, W.V.; and Lucy Rank, Lafayette, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Goldia Lena Caudill; four sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Mach 29, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Services will follow at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Chaplain Joe Stark will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, where graveside military rites will be performed.
