Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
8:34 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, South CR 700W, south of West SR 25, Warsaw. Driver: Justin Peconga, 18, Buffalo Street, Warsaw. Peconga’s vehicle struck a deer. Damage up to $5,000.
6;21 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, SR 13, east of Grandview Drive, Syracuse. Driver: Dan A. Somers, 85, SR 13, Syracuse. Somers’ vehicle went off the road and struck a mailbox. Damage up to $2,500.
4:55 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, Saddlebrook Lane, Warsaw. Drivers: Richard Long, 70, Augusta Lane, Warsaw; and Heidi C. Miller, 41, Essex Drive, Warsaw. Long attempted to go around Miller’s vehicle, which was parked next to some mailboxes. In doing so, Long’s vehicle sideswiped Miller’s vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
3:29 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, US 30, Warsaw. Driver: Tony A. Spelts, 31, Lincoln Street, Bremen. Spelts’ vehicle struck a deer. Damage up to $5,000.
12:12 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, South CR 800W, north of West CR 100S, Mentone. A vehicle was traveling south on CR 800W when it apparently went of the roadway and struck a utility pole. After striking the pole, the vehicle crossed CR 100S and entered a cemetery located at the southeast corner of CR 800W and CR 100S. While in the cemetery, the vehicle appeared to have overturned multiple times through the cemetery, causing damage to a fence and several headstones, before coming to a rest on its wheels. The driver of the vehicle was not found at the scene; however, the owner of the vehicle was found walking along CR100S, west of the crash scene. The owner of the vehicle said he left the Time Out Inn too intoxicated to drive and requested that someone else drive him home. However, he said he could not confirm whether or not he was driving during the time of the crash. Responding medics said that, according to seat belt markings, the owner of the vehicle was the passenger inside the vehicle. The area was searched, but police were unable to find anyone in the area who may have been involved in the crash. Damage up to $100,000.
6:48 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, North CR 300E, south of East CR 1300N, Syracuse. Driver: Loretta Schaffer, 46, East CR 1050N, Syracuse. Schaffer’s vehicle struck a deer. Damage up to $5,000.
6:42 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, SR 19, south of Pearl Street, Mentone. Driver: Ricky T. Fuller, 60, South CR 450W, Silver Lake. Fuller’s vehicle struck a deer. Damage up to $10,000.
6:02 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, SR 14, east of County Farm Road, Silver Lake. Drivers: Stephen L. Metzger, 26, South CR 650E, Pierceton; and Andrew Carpenter, 31, Park Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio. Metzger’s vehicle struck a farm plow that was being pulled by Carpenter’s vehicle. Damage up to $10,000.
5:31 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, North CR 150W, south of West CR500N, Warsaw. Driver: Megan D. Bixler, 22, Rivercrest Drive, Warsaw. Bixler’s vehicle struck a turkey. Damage up to $2,500.
