Grace Village ARTcare Program Receives Donation
WINONA LAKE — Grace Village Retirement Community recently announced it received a $10,000 donation made in memory of Doris and Harold Strange from their children, Robert (Debra) Strange and Barb (Mark) McCollom.
These funds will support the ARTcare therapy program by providing for a wide variety of supplies, allowing Grace Village to accommodate more residents and grow the program through use of different mediums.
Harold and Doris’ children wished to support the ARTcare program that, under the leadership of Michael Conley, provided their parents with a “wonderful avenue to use and develop their artistic talents and was a blessing in their lives.” They also expressed their gratitude to Conley for the kindness he showed to their parents and all the residents at Grace Village.
The Grace Village ARTcare program provides art therapy to residents for increased physical, mental and emotional health benefits. One goal of the program is to encourage families and friends to join their loved ones, working side by side, which offers them time away from the routines and challenges of living in healthcare.
Doris was the first to join ARTcare and Harold soon followed. They were the first husband and wife team to join ARTcare and participated regularly. It was inspiring to watch them encouraging each other, laughing, reminiscing, and planning to have lunch together. Harold continued the program even after Doris’ passing last year. He excelled and was thrilled to gift many of his acrylic and watercolor paintings to his family.
“Harold and Doris are now our ARTcare angels and will be greatly missed but will always be remembered for their love for each other and their passion for creating art together,” said Conley.
