Warsaw Library: Winter Reading Program Begins Jan. 6

Each December is full of the general busyness of life, along with the added excitement and obligations that the holidays bring. Schedules are knocked cattywampus, and preparations are made to visit others or to make visitors comfortable and entertained in your neck of the woods, or both.
After the hullabaloo is over and things are getting back to normal, it’s nice to settle back into reading a book or listening to a favorite story or piece of music on CD. Children are back to doing prescribed tasks, so a bit of relaxation is something they look forward to. Just in time, the Winter Reading Program begins at Warsaw Community Public Library.
From Monday, Jan. 6 through Feb. 29 of 2020, patrons of all ages are invited to join us and bring in the new year with books, music, and creativity. Children’s Services will once again use a BINGO board to track the activities our young participants accomplish during that time. Children can count activities such as playing a game with family or friends. Another BINGO square may invite them to attend or suggest a library program. Writing or singing a rhyme can be an activity your young one might enjoy; conversing contributes to vocabulary-building. A child can choose an activity that includes creating something from recyclable materials that may be displayed at the library.
What about books? Shouldn’t they be a part of a reading program? Absolutely! A child can read a historical book with a friend, sibling or a pet. They can read a book that was chosen for an award, such as a Caldecott Medal winner or a Hoosier award-winning story. They can read a book from a display at the library, or a favorite edition from their own bookshelf. If a teacher or caregiver reads a book to them in class or at daycare, they can keep track of that and report it on their BINGO sheet. We just want our young patrons to have fun reading, creating, and expressing themselves in positive ways.
