Warsaw Standouts, Wawasee Star Honored
INDIANAPOLIS – The area trio of Lindsay Baker, KiLee Knafel and Jennifer Walker-Crawford headline the list of area girls basketball players among those honored recently on the Associated Press All-State lists.
Baker, a senior guard from Warsaw, was a high honorable mention selection to the AP list. Baker, who will play at Toledo, averaged 11.4 points-per-game her senior season and led the Tigers in 3-pointers.
Knafel, a senior guard from Wawasee, was also a high honorable mention pick to the AP squad. Knafel, who will continue her playing career at IUSB, averaged 24.3 ppg. and finished second in school history with 1,651 career points.
Walker-Crawford, a senior forward from Warsaw, was among the players named to the honorable mention list. Walker-Crawford, who will play at Kentucky Wesleyan University, led the Tigers in scoring at 14 ppg. and was second in rebounding at six caroms per contest.
Baker and Walker-Crawford teamed to lead the Tigers to a 24-2 season. Warsaw won conference, sectional and regional championships during the 2012-13 season.
Other area players on the high honorable mention list were Olivia Carlton (Penn), Taylor Lutz (Penn) and Khadijah Moore (Elkhart Memorial).
Named on the honorable mention list were Katie Barnard (Mishawaka Marian), Savannah Bley (NorthWood), Caroline Buhr (Penn), Ashley Campbell (Oregon-Davis), Jordyn Frantz (NorthWood), Tiara Murphy (South Bend Washington), Taylor Parmley (Mishawaka) and Haley Richardson (West Noble).
The AP first team include seniors Stephanie Mavunga (Brownsburg), Bridget Perry (Roncalli) and Taya Reimer (Hamilton Southeastern) and juniors Whitney Jennings (Logansport) and Maura Muensterman (Evansville Mater Dei).
Mavunga, who will play at North Carolina, was the 2013 Miss Basketball recipient. Reimer will play at Notre Dame.
The second team list includes seniors Celeste Edwards (North Central), Ally Lehman (Indian Creek), Jill Morrison (Winchester), Ariana Simmons (Fort Wayne South Side) and Dakota Weatherford (Hamilton Heights).
The third team choices were seniors Katie Curtis (Lebanon), Adrijana Cvitkovic (Culver Academy) and Rhagen Smith (Sullivan), junior Erica Moore (Mt. Vernon-Hancock) and sophomore Ali Patberg (Columbus North).
