Carmel Continues On, Ridge Finishes Fourth At Swim State
INDIANAPOLIS – There won’t be a local parade for girls swimming in the immediate area after the conclusion of the IHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving State Championships.
The closest any area swimmer got was Elsa Fretz, who finished third in the 50 freestyle. Fretz also dropped to eighth in the butterfly after positioning within a second in the prelims.
Northridge posted fourth, fourth and eighth in its three relays, Sydney Nethercutt was eighth in the 200 free and ninth in the 500 free, Jenna Nethercutt was sixth and teammate Anna Yeater 15th in the breaststroke, and diver Kaitlin Simons was fifth. The Raiders as a team finished fourth in the standings with 158 points.
Everyone was staring up at Carmel for the 34th straight year, their whopping 426.5 points keeping their national record streak in tact. Fishers won the ‘other’ trophy with 208 points, outdistancing Franklin’s 165 points. Carmel won all three of the relays and five total events to storm the finals once again.
Concord was 14th with 55 points, buoyed by Grace Brenneman’s sixth-place finish in the 100 free and eighth place in the 50 free. Ella Lantz was 14th in the backstroke and the Minutemen relays were 13th, 11th and 13th.
Culver Academy’s Autumn Baumgartner placed 10th in the 100 free and 13th in the 50 free.
Wawasee’s Alexis Mishler was listed Friday night as the 16th place finisher in the 100, but was bumped out after a reset of the placings later Friday night.
