Sectional Saturday in the boys swim world saw Warsaw punch a half dozen tickets to the IHSAA Boys Swim State Finals. The Tigers also won its 13th straight title and 21st sectional trophy overall. The 13th straight title for Warsaw matches Carmel for the third longest streak in IHSAA swimming.

TIGERS ROLL TO ANOTHER TROPHY

Warsaw won all three relays, the final 400 free relay in exciting fashion. The 400 saw Warsaw’s Zach LaLonde touch the wall at 3:23.04 to Culver Academy’s Charlie Varga at 3:23.06. The Tigers had an easier time of the 200 free relay at 1:29.27 and the medley relay at 1:39.08.

Grant Knight punched two individual tickets to state, repeating in the breaststroke with a win at 57.44 and grabbing his first 50 free title, winning at 21.98 to beat Grant Dale of Northfield by four-hundredths.

Cooper Archer won Warsaw’s other title, winning the individual medley at 2:08.38, less than a half-second better than teammate Nate Taylor.

Warsaw won its team title by racking up 459 points, well ahead of Columbia City’s 326 and Culver Academy’s 300.

Tippecanoe Valley saw its season end at the sectional, but had some decent results. Valley’s medley relay was runner-up in the meet with a 1:48.87, the Viking 400 relay was fourth and Karl Parker was sixth in the IM.

Rochester’s Mason Beall was a double winner, taking the 200 free (1:46.92) and 100 free (49.04), the 100 a .15 win over a charging Varga. Dale won a title in the backstroke (54.29), Seth Blossom of Wabash won the 500 (4:52.89) and Francis Eilert of Culver Academy won the butterfly (55.06).

The Academy’s Reid Omilian won diving at 385.20, with Zack Reed of Wabash, Briceton Ellington of Cass and Kadin Kelly of Rochester all qualify for Tuesday’s diving regional.

MINUTEMEN FEND OFF BLUE BLAZERS FOR CONCORD TITLE

Concord had just three champions, but had enough help elsewhere to build up 428 points to edge Elkhart Central’s 403 points for the team title at Concord.

Will Harris set a pool record with a 21.10 championship in the 50 free, and later met the state cut with a 46.76 in the 100 free. The Minutemen won the 200 free relay (1:27.38) and Tommy Brunner rocketed to a win (4:39.46) in the 500 freestyle.

Central had a host of champions. Lucas Byrd won both the 100 free (46.03) and 200 free (1:41.40) and Eric Kelm took both the butterfly (51.44) and backstroke (53.07), and the two were both involved in the championship 400 free relay (3:13.03) and tying Northridge for the medley relay title, both teams hitting the wall at 1:35.72.

Northridge had two other champions, Turner Koch claiming the IM (1:56.49) and Joey Garberick the breaststroke (56.85). The Raiders were third in the team standings with 289 points.

NorthWood’s Caden Jenkins repeated as sectional diving champion, putting together a 11-dive series of 504.35 to top the field. Concord’s Ethan Smith along with the Central duo of Nick Hardy and Henry Gatzemeyer all qualified for regionals.

Wawasee saw its season end unless it gets a phone call for a pickup. The Warriors had several top fives but no champions or state cut marks. All three of its relays were fourth, Nathan Kryder was fourth in the 200 free and fly, Daegan Kingrey was third in the 50 and fifth in the 100 freestyles, Karlson Hand was fourth in the IM and Blake Roose was fifth in the 500 free. The Warriors were fourth in the team standings at 278 points.

NorthWood’s swim season is over, it’s two championship swims saw Joe Hahn take eighth in the 50 and its 200 free relay landing seventh.
