CLAYPOOL — A vehicle parade is being held for a nine-year-old Claypool girl who is battling cancer.

Payton Slaymaker was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, also known as a DIPG, in July 2019. Slaymaker will be starting her second round of radiation on April 9.

Family members are asking the public to show their support via a parade since the virus pandemic limits visitors.

Drivers who want to participate are asked to line up at Claypool Elementary School at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, with takeoff starting at 7 p.m.

“In the times we’re living in now with social distancing being our ‘new normal,’ we wanted to find a way for people to encourage Payton while keeping everyone safe,” said Kaila Stafford Dausman, Payton’s aunt.

Payton and her family will be sitting roadside at Dausman’s house during the parade.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to make posters, decorate their vehicles, throw candy or simply flash their lights and honk their horns.
