WARSAW — A man faces multiple charges following an alleged domestic battery incident involving a minor and a pregnant woman.

Christopher John Courtois, 28, 1710 Latta St., Warsaw, was charged with domestic battery to a pregnant woman, a level 5 felony; domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; and invasion of privacy, a class A misdemeanor.

On April 12, Warsaw police responded to a report of domestic battery at a Lassus Gas Station in Warsaw. Police spoke to a woman who claimed to have been battered by her boyfriend, Courtois. She said the incident occurred in front of three children. The woman told police she was 21 weeks pregnant, due in late August. She said Courtois was aware of the pregnancy prior to the altercation, according to court paperwork.

According to court paperwork, it appears the incident did not occur at the Lassus Gas Station but at an undisclosed residence.

Police saw several scratches on the woman’s neck, cheeks and forehead. She also had blood around her mouth and above her right eyelid. She complained of pain to her face and behind one ear. She said Courtois punched her near her ear.

Police also spoke with the children who provided their versions of what happened. The children said they got scared and ran upstairs.

Police spoke with Courtois. He said he got into a loud verbal argument with the woman. He said he told her to leave the house. Courtois claimed the woman packed her clothes and left. He claimed nothing became physical.

However, police saw dried blood on the palm of Courtois’ hand. He claimed the blood was from a bloody nose earlier that day. Police did not find any dried blood in Courtois’ nose, according to court paperwork.

There is a protective order issued by Marion County Superior Court against Courtois. He also has a prior conviction for domestic battery against the same victim from February 2016.

On April 13, Courtois was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail. His bond is $11,000 surety and cash.
