WARSAW – A long line of motorists arrived early for a food distribution event in Warsaw that was run by people with God’s Highway to Heaven.

The event was made possible with help from the Food Bank of Northern Indiana and was scheduled to run from noon to 4 p.m. at its facility at 555 Webber St. in Warsaw.

Typically, the church distributes food once or twice a month, but today’s event was a random food giveaway due to the large amount of supplies the food bank recently received in light of the pandemic.

“Ever since the virus, our supplies have been quickly emptied but also quickly restocked,” said Judy Pennington, who oversees the food bank.

People began lining up to pick up food at 11 a.m. Traffic on North Park Avenue has remained relatively busy as a result of food pick-up.

Pennington and the church’s pastor, Pastor Bob Brown, noted many organizations and people that help donate to the pantry regularly, including McHatton Sadler Funeral Chapel and World Compassion Network.

“In the end, this is about us helping needy people while sharing the message of Christ,” said Brown.

“I love it,” said Pennington. “I love being able to do this and helping others.”

The food pantry was packed with supplies to be distributed to those in need.

Traffic on North Park Avenue remained relatively busy during the event.
