Warsaw Library Explores Interest in Reviving Children’s Writing Club
News Release
WARSAW – Some children write because it is required of them. Some write casually and intermittently. Some are compelled to write by a force they don’t understand. All of these young folks can be good writers.
When elementary school students are learning the craft of writing, it can come easily to them, or it can be like pulling teeth; painful and slow. The thing about creative writing is that, no matter the process, the result can express feelings and ideas that we didn’t even know we had.
Libraries are known for having resources to feed our minds. What about outlets for expressing what we have learned and imagined? Are libraries places where we can express ourselves?
Warsaw Community Public Library has hosted an adult writers’ club for many years. We tried a writers’ club for children a few years ago, but it never flourished.
The library wonders if during this time of social isolation, some children have found writing as a place of solace or a repository of feelings and ideas. If you are a child or a parent who would like to see a vibrant community of young writers at our library, please let us know. While our doors are closed to the public, we can still be contacted at [email protected]. We are actively working to adapt our programming to keep us all safe and healthy and look forward to hearing from young authors in our community.
