Only a shell and debris remains of a barn owned by Larry and Connie Rosenberry that was destroyed by fire Sunday morning May 10. Poultry, a cat, two lawnmowers and furniture were lost in the fire.

SYRACUSE — A barn fire early Sunday morning, May 10, at 4445 E. 1200N, resulted in the loss of chicks, ducklings, turkeys, a cat, some furniture and two lawnmowers. The damage has been estimated up to $30,000.

Turkey Creek Fire Territory was called to the barn fire at 8:16 a.m. and upon arrival found the barn to be heavily involved with fire on the southeast corner of the property near CR 450E. The property is owned by Larry and Connie Rosenberry.

The fire was contained to the 40-foot by 40-foot barn. While there were no humans inside the structure at the time of the fire, firefighters were unable to enter the structure to attempt to rescue the animals due to the intensity. It is believed the poultry and cat all perished in the fire.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control approximately 30 minutes after arriving at the scene. However, crews remained at the scene to extinguish any remaining fire with the last crews clearing the scene at 10:20 a.m.

Mutual aid was requested and received from Benton Township Fire Department, Milford Fire Department and North Webster Fire Department. There were a total of 50 firefighters from four departments battling the fire and shuttling water to the scene. There were no injuries to firefighters at the scene.

The Syracuse Police Department provided traffic control at the scene.
