Track Association Announces Its Academic Stars

INDIANAPOLIS – Nearly 800 track athletes had their name called as part of the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (IATCCC) Academic All-State selections.
The IATCCC named 795 total boys and girls track athletes, 471 boys and 324 girls, in both First Team and Honorable Mention picks. The requirements for the IATCCC merits the athlete must be a junior or senior and be on the sectional roster (or in 2020, ‘active’). The student athlete must also carry a 3.5 GPA (or equivalent) and have at least a 1200 SAT or 26 ACT as a senior, or equal as a junior or 1140 PSAT score.
The lone IFN coverage area athlete on the girls lists was NorthWood’s Mia Wellington, who was named an Honorable Mention Academic All-State. On the First Team Academic All-State list from the area include East Noble’s Anna Becker, Elkhart Memorial’s Emily Anderson, Plymouth’s Lindsay James and Madison Stiles, Rochester’s Paige Bode, and South Bend St. Joe’s Tessa Berente, Amelia Kempf, Carmen Nunez and Izzy Riboni.
Area Honorable Mention choices include East Noble’s Kylie Garton and Delaney Norman, Elkhart Memorial’s Laila Nagy, Fairfield’s Carol Haldeman and Madelyn Yoder, Manchester’s Maddie Evans and Sarah Pegg, Rochester’s Sam Shriver, and South Bend St. Joe’s Anne Goralczyk, Anna Patsche, Bella Saratone and Tatum White.
Four boys track athletes from Warsaw were chosen as First Team All-State in Nick Bazzoni, Austin Fleming, Jacob Kissling and Sam Lechitner and teammate Fernando Niebbia was chosen as Honorable Mention. NorthWood had Quinten Hunberger and Sam Schlatter both chosen First Team and the quartet of Carson Martin, Garrett Miller, Jacob Mitschelen and Jordan Mitschelen all picked as Honorable Mention.
Others chosen as First Team Academic All-State include Columbia City’s Nathan Mills, Elkhart Memorial’s Neil Terrell and Breydan Weston, Goshen’s Zach Barker, Zane Barker and Aleister Morrison, Maconaquah’s Bryant Teegardin, Manchester’s Sam Reichenbach, New Prairie’s Tristan Balmer, Tim O’Laughlin and Hunter Smith, Plymouth’s Joe Styers, Rochester’s Mason Beall and Calen Campbell, South Bend St. Joe’s Levi Dickson, Tommy Garnett, Sean Gibson, Luke Liu and TJ Weber, and Wabash’s Caleb Callahan.
Honorable Mention Academic All-State boys track picks include Columbia City’s Cameron Jagger and Nick Mills, East Noble’s Austin Liepe and Wesley Potts, Elkhart Memorial’s Luis Cruz Portillo and Brice Johnson, Fairfield’s Marco Almiray-Pujols, AJ Miller and Seth Yoder, Maconaquah’s Sam Bourne and Jeremiah Moore, New Prairie’s Quinn Beall and Tom Wykoff, Plymouth’s Nick Craft, Konnor Ray, Robby Richards and Cam Riddle, Rochester’s Evan Murphy, South Bend St. Joe’s Liam Fuller, Josh Juday and Zach Taylor, Wabash’s Jarrett Wilson and Winamac’s Ryan Huggler.
