Sue A. Baker
Sue A. Baker, 80, of Syracuse, Ind., passed away at 3:42 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, at her home.
She was born April 5, 1932, in Goshen, Ind., to William and Martha A. (Brown) Whetten. She graduated in 1950 from New Paris High School and was a Syracuse area resident. She was married on March 29, 1951, to Ralph “Frank” Hoover, who preceded her in death on July 8, 1970. She then married Dewey L. Baker on Aug. 31, 1979. He died on July 8, 1986. She retired from Dana Corp. in Syracuse after 42 years as a Quality Assurance Clerk.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 223 and VFW Auxiliary Post 1382, both of Syracuse, DAV Auxiliary in Goshen and Dana Retirees in Syracuse.
She is survived by four daughters: Marilyn (Joe Bill) Bartman, Syracuse; Faye (Ronald) Church, New Paris; Jacqueline Blosser, Syracuse; Janice Wood, Syracuse; a son: William “Bill” (Norma) Hoover, Elkhart; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Anita Whetten, New Paris; Carolyn (Tom) Hull, Ligonier; four brothers: Jerry (Ann) Whetten, Syracuse; Larry (Lucy) Whetten, Edwardsburg, Mich.; Gary Whetten and Marvin Whetten, both of Baldwin, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a grandson: Christopher Wood; two sisters: Nancy Peterson and Joan Hoover.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Wednesday is the funeral home with Pastor Brad Cox of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating. Burial will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
