Concord Clips Softball Squad
The Warsaw softball team dropped a 5-1 final at Concord Friday in Northern Lakes Conference play.
Kaleigh Speicher led Warsaw with two hits, including a double. The junior was also the losing pitcher for the Tigers.
Concord scored two runs in the first inning and three in the fifth for the win. The hosts outhit Warsaw 11-5 in the contest.
Sabrina Scherer had two hits and three RBI for Concord. Sarah Emerson had a double and a triple and RaeAnn Miller notched the pitching win.
Concord won the JV game by a 9-2 final to improve to 7-0 on the season.
Warsaw’s varsity squad falls to 3-8 overall and 3-3 in the NLC. Concord improves to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Warsaw plays at NLC foe Elkhart Memorial Monday. Concord plays Jimtown and Elkhart Central Saturday at Central.
Minutemen Topple Tigers
The Concord baseball team was hitting on all cylinders Friday night at Warsaw.
The Minutemen piled up 13 hits en route to defeating the hosts 12-1 in five innings in a Northern Lakes Conference game.
Concord scored six runs in the second inning and four more in the third to highlight the win. The Minutemen had seven extra-base hits in the contest, including three home runs.
Dakota Simon led the winner with two hits, including a homer, and three RBI.
Cain Crowley, who fired a three-hitter on the hill, had a homer and two RBI for Concord.
Concord won the JV game 12-11 in eight innings to improve to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the NLC.
Concord, now 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the NLC, plays at Wawasee Monday. Warsaw, which drops to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play, travels to Valparaiso Saturday and then hosts Elkhart Memorial on Monday.
Chargers Edge Warsaw Tennis Team
A singles sweep netted Elkhart Memorial a 3-2 girls tennis win Friday over host Warsaw.
Bailey Denton, Corinn Whittaker and Taelor Gross won in singles action to give the Crimson Chargers the narrow Northern Lakes Conference victory.
Denton defeated Sarah Boyle 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1. Whittaker topped Jacqueline Sasso 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 and Grose beat Rachel Alexander 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.
The Tigers took both doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Olivia Wallin and Marley Smith rallied to defeat Delaney Gilbert and Haley Stouder 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. Lindsay Sciarra and Mallory Bartel outlasted Mady Robinson and Taylor Freedline 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to win at No. 2 doubles for Warsaw.
Warsaw won 12 of the 13 JV matches. Winners for the Tigers were Blair Findlay, Shelby Roberts, Mallorie Stiver, Greer Smith and Danielle Straits in singles play. Also victorious were the doubles teams of Abbi Baum and Anna Hall, Camille Kerlin and Sydney Hartman, Olivia Tucker and MacKenzie Riley, Sherry Wong and Rosalia Fleming, Bonnie Wong and Casey Shirk, Taylor Smith and Abby Smith and Sydney Peugh and Jessica Marroquin.
Warsaw, which drops to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the NLC, will host Homestead Monday.
