WARSAW — A proclamation signed by Mayor Joseph Thallemer declares Saturday, Aug. 29, as Indiana Patriot Guard Day in the city of Warsaw.

Riders will gather at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. At noon, the mayor will read the proclamation, followed by a presentation of the honor and sacrifice flag by the Indiana Patriot Guard to the family of Detective Sergeant Phillip Hochstetler Jr., who sacrificed all for his community on June 29, 1994.

A barbeque lunch will be served by Hogs R Wild BBQ. A ride will take place at 1 p.m. on Center Street from McHatton-Sadler to VFW Post #1126 where they will participate in a medical expense benefit for Dan and Mary Damron. The public is encouraged to show their support along the ride route.

“This is a perfect example of the Indiana Patriot Guard, as we wish to honor them. They put others first, namely the Hochstetlers, who along with Det. Hochstetler continues to make sacrifices today,” said Derek Sadler.

Organized in 2006, the Riders of Northeast Indiana have done over 1,200 funeral missions, 250 parades, assisted in sending 60,000 pounds of care packages to troops and assisted wounded warriors and veterans in need. With over 1,500 members in Northeast Indiana, they are active duty, reserve, retired, discharged and disabled vets along with grandparents, fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, CEOs, janitors, police officers, firefighters, medics, grocers, mechanics, secretaries and everyone in between.
