Warsaw Competes At Marion Invite

Both of Warsaw’s cross country teams were on the move Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University as part of the giant Marion XC Invite.

Warsaw’s boys team ran with some of the elite programs in the state and held its own, finishing eighth in the team standings. Leading the way for the Tigers was Jacob Kissling, crossing the line at 16:37 to finish 27th overall. Sam Lechlitner crossed a step behind Kissling at 16:38, and Harrison Phipps wasn’t far behind at 16:53. Luke Nier (17:11) and Garrett Hall (17:29) were the scorers for Warsaw.

Indianapolis Brebeuf won the boys title with 73 points, outpointing Fort Wayne Concordia and North Central Indy to comprise the top three.

In the girls race, Warsaw landed 11th. Wini Barnett made the top 30 with a time of 19:28 to place 29th. Ava Knight  and Regan Brouwer both timed 20:34, Liz Vander Bie was four seconds back and Marrisa Howett came in at 21:15 for Warsaw’s top five.

Carmel held off Fort Wayne Carroll in a likely championship preview, 42-43, as the two elite programs on display. Penn was third at 139.

Valley, LCA Gain Experience At Manchester Invite

While the teams weren’t anywhere near the top of a regionally-competitive Manchester Invite, Tippecanoe Valley and Lakeland Christian Academy both had their runners working around the course in Wabash County.

Valley did produce a pair of top-25 spots claimed in the two races, with Matthew Howes taking 24th in the boys race with a time of 17:58, and Chesnee Miller clocking 20:59 to take 23rd in the girls race.

The Valley boys took 16th overall as a team, with Chase Miller (19:55), Brady Rodgers (20:09), Evan Myers (20:54) and Jace Holloway (21:28) as the scoring quintet. The Valley girls were 15th overall as a team, with Ella Myers (24:29), Maria Henderson (25:13), Talia Holder (25:16) and Ava Craig (26:13) as its top five.

LCA had David Plastow as its top runner at 21:25 with Jude Hall a second behind, then Josiah Miller (25:21) and Gabe Anderson (26:58). The Lady Cougars had Becca Bass (26:43), Kathryn Monsma (29:04) and Fe-Ammarii Garcia (36:58) among the runners.

Penn won the boys title with 30 points, ahead of Morgan Township at 80 and Fort Wayne Northrop at 90. Penn’s Mariano Retzloff won the individual title at 16:34.

Culver Academy won the girls title with 71 points, staving off Valpo’s 75 and Fort Wayne South Side at 107. CMA’s Lexi Allen won the individual title at 18:39.
