WARSAW — COVID-19 has forced local Altrusa Club members to become very creative in their fundraising.

This year, instead of selling tickets for BBQ chicken meals, they asked supporters to save the chickens from the pit. No buying tickets in advance. No driving to the designated location. No waiting in line. No stick, greasy fingers. Their Save the Chickens from the Pit fundraiser only asked for donations to be mailed to Altrusa International of Warsaw, P.O. Box 111, Warsaw, anytime this fall.

Their solicitations also made suggestions for donations. $10 saves 1/2 a chicken and calories from the side dish. $20 saves two halves and calories from the sides. $40 saves two chickens plus all the calories.

Donations help Altrusa International of Warsaw to support Bingo for Beaman Home, CASA, their adopted class at Lincoln Elementary, Combined Community Services Project Independence, Kosciusko Literacy Services, Salvation Army, Bakers Youth Club, Habitat for Humanity, Mobile Meals, Breath of Life Haiti and the Strengthening Families Program, among others.

Altrusa International is an international non-profit organization making its local communities better with over 1 million volunteer hours annually through their members’ leadership, partnership and service. The local club has served the Kosciusko County Community for nearly 50 years.
