Emergency responders shovel grain away from an opening in a grain bin south of Sidney Friday afternoon, Sept. 25, in an attempt to save a man trapped inside. InkFreeNews photo by Dan Spalding.

SIDNEY – A man was rescued from a grain bin Friday, Sept. 25.

The accident happened sometime after 4 p.m. on CR 1250S, south of Sidney.

At one point, emergency responders punctured several holes in the base of the bin, pulled back the metal and began shoveling grain as it slowly flowed from the holes.

Teams of two and three men rotated with others as they shoveled nonstop. Bobcats were used to push the grain further away.

According to Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Assistant Fire Chief Aaron Bolinger, the man was rescued at approximately 5:20 p.m. He was checked out by EMS following the rescue and had no apparent injuries.

A medical helicopter landed on the county road, but then left before anyone was transported.

An initial report by dispatchers said he was buried up to his armpits.

Rescuers worked knee-deep in grain during the rescue.
