Volleyball Results: Oct. 1
Wawasee 3, Mishawaka 1
Wawasee finally got off the mat in the Northern Lakes Conference, knocking off Mishawaka 23-25, 25-10, 25-16, 25-22 Thursday night at the Hardwood Teepee.
For the second time this season, Amanda Allen broke the 40-assist barrier, hoisting up 44 helpers against the Cavemen, which bottomed out at 0-7 in the NLC. Allen also had four blocks, which tied Leslie Vazquez, who had nine kills and 13 digs. Bailey Mayhew had 10 kills, 10 digs and seven blocks in the contest and Dylan Konieczny cannoned 15 kills. Emma Dippon led the Warriors , (16-9, 1-5 NLC) with 20 hammers.
“A great rebound match in the NLC,” stated Wawasee skipper Jeff Phillips. “We were solid throughout and maintained a high level of play. Excited for a tournament opportunity Saturday in LaPorte.”
The Wawasee JV (14-4) used seven kills from Lauren Miller and six digs, five aces and 19 assists from Emma Young to beat Mishawaka 25-22, 25-16.
Wabash 3, Tippecanoe Valley 2
It was a heartbreaker for the Vikings on the road, seeing a game four lead disappear and falling in five, 25-20, 10-25, 25-19, 22-25, 10-15.
Valley lead 16-8 in the fourth set, only for Wabash to rally and take a 23-22 lead, closing out the set on a 17-6 run, and never looked back.
Stat leaders for Valley (10-10, 5-2 TRC) included Hayley Backus with nine kills and three blocks, Hannah Engstrand with 24 assists, 14 digs and two blocks, Bree Sheetz with eight kills, Brayden Baney with 12 digs and Ashley Butler with six aces.
The Valley JV won 25-20, 25-17. Emily McGriff powered five kills and four blocks and Macy Kirchenstien had 11 digs and 10 assists in the win.
Bethany Christian 3, Triton 2
In a rescheduled contest from earlier in the season, Bethany made the most of the added competition and handed the Trojans its fourth straight loss in a 24-26, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 15-10 marathon at the Trojan Trench.
Stat leaders for Triton (16-9) included a combined 30 kills from Lexia Hostrawser, Madeline Doll and Addyson Viers. Abbey Viers and Hostrawser combined for seven blocks, Hostrawser and Emma Hepler combined for six aces, Molly McFarland dug 25 attempts and Hepler sent up 36 assists.
Bethany took the JV game in a 25-17, 25-24 result. Lena Doll had 10 digs and Lauren Snyder added eight assists for the hosts.
