SILVER LAKE — Two Silver Lake men were arrested after stealing two motorcycles.
Christopher Alan Jayne, 29, 305 E. Main St., Silver Lake; and Justin Blake Rogers, 25, 503 N. Jefferson St., Silver Lake, are both charged with theft, a level 6 felony.
On Aug. 25, the Silver Lake Police Department received a tip that Jayne and Rogers were in possession of two stolen motorcycles and had been riding them around Silver Lake.
On Sept. 4, a Silver Lake Police officer received an anonymous call from a person who said that Rogers was loading a motorcycle into a vehicle.
According to court documents, the officer went to the location and saw Rogers strapping down a white motorcycle into the bed of a truck. The officer told Rogers he had information that there may be two stolen motorcycles at the address Rogers was at. Rogers said he was working on the motorcycle for a friend and that he was getting ready to return it because he could not get it running properly.
The officer obtained the motorcycle’s vehicle identification number and confirmed the motorcycle was reported stolen. It was also later discovered that Rogers had an arrest warrant for probation violation.
The officer spoke with the property owner to see if there was another motorcycle inside a garage on the property. The property owner confirmed another motorcycle was in the garage. That motorcycle was also reported as stolen.
Rogers told the officer that a man had dropped off the motorcycles two days prior and made an agreement to trade a car for one of the motorcycles. Jayne also allegedly made an unknown agreement for one of the motorcycles. Rogers said the man was from Milford, but no information could be found with the name Rogers provided.
Jayne told the officer he had obtained one of the motorcycles from a friend who lives in Claypool. However, Jayne did not provide the friend’s name.
Rogers was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 3; Jayne was booked on Oct. 29.
