PIERCETON — Pierceton is continuing to work on parking issues behind an apartment building.
At its meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, the Pierceton Town Council heard from Jeff Carroll who owns apartments on SR 13.
Tenants’ vehicles have been hindering trash pickup when parked behind the apartments. Carroll did say there was a fence in that area not set back at the right distance, which influenced where tenants parked.
He said that he’ll tell his tenants not to park there on trash days and “assume any liability” for any damage done to vehicles by the truck picking trash up.
Town Council President Tom Barker suggested that vehicles be parked south of there, which would allow the vehicles to be closer to the apartment building.

The council also heard from Town Marshal Tim Sammons that he’s still waiting on hearing when the town’s newest officer Ashley Jones will be able to attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
Sammons also said Town Clerk-Treasurer Myra Mast helped him set up a Text My Gov account for the police department.
The service allows residents to text a number to get questions answered related to local government. The number for residents to text is 574-465-6004.
Sammons thanked the Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) 43 for helping to stop some drugs from reaching the Pierceton area.
He said the Pierceton Police Department helped serve at least 14 subpoenas in the area for an upcoming court case.
The department has received masks provided by the K21 Health Foundation. The foundation saved the department $2,935.79, said Sammons.
Sammons also requested that the town purchase three laptops for the department.
With COVID-19 making communications more virtual, the department needs them, said Sammons. There’s upcoming Zoom training his department would be unable to do without them. The council approved using COVID-19 relief funds to buy them.
Sammons also recognized local businessman Randy Bowman, who was present, with a plaque.
Bowman has helped finance emergency lights for department vehicles among other things. He also has helped first responders in other nearby towns.
In other business, the council also:
- Heard from Town Superintendent Casey Boggs that town employees got additional help in fixing a large water leak in town.
Boggs also said leaf pickup is continuing and asked that residents be patient in waiting for it. The town doesn’t have any seasonal employees to help with work right now. He said workers are to be off Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day as well.
- Approved a quote of $5,931.24 from Carpet Depot, Winona Lake, to redo the carpet in the office of the clerk-treasurer.
The council’s next meeting is 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Pierceton Community Building.
