South Bend Man Arrested After Controlled Drug Buy

WARSAW — A South Bend man was recently arrested after a controlled drug purchase.
Jimmie Lee Underwood, Jr., 34, 55871 Orange Road, South Bend, is charged with dealing in a narcotic drug weighing more than one gram, a level 4 felony; and possession of a narcotic drug and resisting law enforcement, both level 6 felonies.
On Sept. 23, 2016, a Warsaw Police officer met with an informant who said they had arranged to purchase three grams of heroin for $500 from Underwood. The officer provided the informant with documented task force funds to complete the purchase.
According to court documents, the informant met with Underwood in a Dollar General parking lot. Using the funds, the informant purchased three grams of heroin from Underwood and provided officers with the drugs. After the purchase, Underwood left the scene.
Officers attempted to stop Underwood; however, Underwood fled from officers in a vehicle. Officers ended the vehicle pursuit due to safety reasons.
South Bend Police assisted Warsaw officers with identifying the dealer as Underwood. Prior to the drug deal, the vehicle Underwood drove to meet with the informant had been reported as stolen.
A warrant for Underwood’s arrest was officially served on Nov. 24 of this year.
