WARSAW – The Warsaw softball team suffered a pair of one-run losses in its own Tiger Tournament Saturday.

The hosts dropped a 4-3 final to Homestead in their first game and then lost to Peru by the same score 4-3 in the consolation contest.

The Tigers committed six errors in the loss to Homestead in first-round play.

Junior Kaleigh Speicher belted a three-run homer for all of Warsaw’s runs in the opener. It was the fourth home run of the season for Speicher, who also took the pitching loss in the contest.

Speicher and sophomore Sidney Hernandez each belted roundtrippers in the 4-3 loss to Peru in the consolation game. It was the fifth of the season for Speicher and the first for Hernandez.

Concordia edged Peru 7-6 in the other first-round game. Homestead then outscored Concordia 12-11 in the championship contest to claim the tourney title.

Warsaw drops to 7-14 overall on the season. The Tigers are 7-5 in Northern Lakes Conference play.

Warsaw faces a busy final week of regular-season play this coming week. The Tigers host NLC foe Concord Monday and then play at Class 3-A No. 1 Mishawaka Marian Tuesday night. Warsaw will then host Elkhart Memorial Wednesday in its final NLC game before hosting Tippecanoe Valley Friday and South Bend St. Joseph on Saturday.

The Tigers will then turn their attention to the Class 4-A Sectional they will host, which starts on May 20. Warsaw drew the bye and plays Concord in a semifinal game on May 22.
