Plastow, Mangas Top Weekly Awards

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from January 25 through 31. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Sam Vaughn, Huntington
Vaughn averaged 14.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game for Huntington in wins over Bethel and Mount Vernon Nazarene. The senior stuffed the box score in a 68-49 win over MVNU with 14 points, 18 rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kyle Mangas, Indiana Wesleyan
Mangas led No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan to a trio of wins, netting 31.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.7 steals per contest and hitting 66.7 percent of his looks from the floor. Mangas closed the week with 35 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks in IWU’s win over Saint Francis.
The award for Mangas was his eighth of the season in the Crossroads, and third straight. He opened the basketball season winning three CL Player of the Week awards in a row.
Women’s Indoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Heather Plastow, Grace
Plastow recorded a pair of top-five showings for Grace at the Indiana Tech Invite, winning the 1,000-meters by five seconds with a finish of 3:07.37 and taking fifth place in the mile.
In addition to the Crossroads League honor, Plastow was also named the NCCAA Runner of the Week for the same showing at the Tech Invite.
Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Kasey Keith, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Keith’s toss of 13.15 meters in the shot put topped the field at the Indiana Tech Invite and set a new personal-best with a distance of 14.07 meters in the weight throw.
Men’s Indoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Drew Thornton, Marian
Thornton helped the Knights to a pair of race wins at the Indiana Tech Invite, topping the field in the 600-meters with a time of 1:21.87, before running the lead leg for Marian in its first-place finish in the 4×800-meter relay.
Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Liam Hesting, Taylor
Hesting showed well for the Trojans at the Indiana Tech Invite, taking second place in the weight throw and third place in the shot put. Hesting posted marks of 17.19 meters in the weight throw and 14.39 meters in the shot put.
