School Record Falls At IWU Invite

MARION – Grace’s track and field team represented well at the Wildcat Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Bryan Hernandez-Rios made history in the 5,000-meter race. The sophomore finished in a time of 15:21.26, breaking a 19-year-old school record (David Kimathi, 2002).
In the women’s 200, Nordia Campbell claimed a victory with a time of 25.89 seconds, and Gracious O’Connor earned third place at 26.65.
The duo also placed together in the 60 dash; O’Connor was the runner-up at 8.00 with Campbell just behind her at 8.02.
The men’s 200 saw Isaac Findley finish as the runner-up (22.59). Isaac Brown was runner-up in the high jump (6-feet-5).
The 4×400 relays continued to impress, posting season-best times. The men’s team of Isaac Beatty, Tyler Morrison, Issiac Mitchell and Kyle Smith won the relay in 3:27.43. The women’s foursome of Campbell, Ashley Stoltzfus, Kaitlyn Mack and Julia Malson placed second at 4:06.72.
The men’s 800 had Maurice Macklin place third (1:58.55), Kyle Smith grab fifth, and Luke Smith finish in sixth place.
Beatty earned a fourth-place showing in the mile (4:27.69), Connor Kitson was seventh in the 60 hurdles, and Neal Kathary was seventh in the shot put.
In the women’s 3,000, Heather Plastow placed sixth (10:36.52), and Mallory Hiatt (10:48.46) was eighth.
The Lancers’ next meet is Feb. 13 at Indiana Tech.
