PERU — Two women were flown to a Fort Wayne hospital after their pickup truck was rear-ended by a semi.

At approximately 10:53 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 31 at Business US 31.

The preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Trooper Caleb Clark shows that Trina Fay Carlson, 26, Starwood, Mich., was driving a 2016 Freightliner semi-tractor, pulling a box trailer south on US 31 while approaching a red stop light at Business US 31. The semi-tractor did not stop and rear-ended a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck, which was stopped for the red light. The pickup truck was driven by Susan Konkle, 62, Rochester.

Konkle and Renee Stouder, 61, Bourbon, a passenger in the Ford, were flown by medical helicopters to a Fort Wayne hospital. Their injuries are unknown. Carlson was not injured.

This is an ongoing investigation. At this time neither the consumption of alcoholic beverages nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.

Clark was assisted at the crash scene by Master Trooper Aaron Schaal, Master Trooper Bart Stouffer, Senior Trooper Jeremy Perez, Trooper Jon Cole, Trooper Jesse Reason, ISP Lieutenant T.J. Zeiser, Samaritan Medical Helicopter, Lutheran Medical Helicopter and the Peru Fire Department.
