Speicher, Snider Pace Warsaw To Win
WARSAW – Kaleigh Speicher made it a Senior Night to remember for her teammates Friday night.
The Warsaw softball standout had a huge game as the host Tigers topped Tippecanoe Valley 12-4 in a non-conference contest at the Tigers Athletic Complex.
Speicher, a junior, had three hits as the Tigers piled up 18 hits in the victory. Speicher smacked her seventh home run of the season, cracked a double, drove in three runs and scored three times in the win.
Speicher, for good measure, collected the pitching win for her team.
Kayla Snider, one of three seniors for Warsaw, had a huge night too with four hits. She also had three RBI, a double and two runs scored.
Junior Kara Dishman had thee hits and two RBI and junior Ashley Ousley had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Sophomore Taylor Stiver had two hits and two RBI and junior Whitney Sleeth scored two runs.
Senior Ashton Warren had two hits for the Tigers in the win.
Warsaw scored four runs in the third inning to turn a 1-1 tie into a 5-1 lead. After the Vikings plated three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 6-4, the Tigers scored six runs in the home half of the sixth for the 12-4 final.
Mariah Benzing had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI to lead the Vikings.
Darian Dotson had two hits and losing pitcher Kassidy Shepherd had a double for Valley.
Warsaw honored seniors Snider, Warren and Allison Himes Friday night.
The Tigers improve to 9-16 on the season, while the Vikings fall to 5-16.
Warsaw hosts South Bend St. Joseph Saturday at 10 a.m. and then faces Concord Wednesday in a semifinal game of the Class 4-A Warsaw Sectional.
Valley hosts its own tourney Saturday and then plays NorthWood Monday at approximately 7 p.m. in a first-round game of the Class 3-A Lakeland Sectional.
