NorthWood Baseball 12, Westview 8
NorthWood brought its hitting sticks with it to the season opener Monday at Westview.
The Panthers rapped 14 hits in the contest, three apiece from Jacob Raasch and Gage Gongwer. The two also had two runs scored and two RBI each as NorthWood also had two hits and two runs scored from Isaiah Yoder and Kyle Sellers.
NorthWood (1-0) had to rally big time, and did, scoring seven runs in the sixth inning after falling behind 6-3 in the third.
Gongwer earned the win, working 3.2 innings, giving up just two hits and four runs, striking out seven. NorthWood’s pitching staff would allow just seven hits, but walked nine Warriors on the day.
Wawasee JV Baseball 13, Whitko 12

Lakeland Softball 17, Wawasee 12
A back-and-forth contest saw Lakeland close out Wawasee Monday afternoon in Syracuse.
Lakeland build a whopping 13-1 lead after its half of the fourth, but Wawasee came back with a 10-spot, getting as close as 13-11 after a two-run single by Jaci Worrell.
Lakeland would add single runs in the fifth and sixth before Kiersten Roose homered to open the seven to push the Lakers to the win.
Ari Garcia led Wawasee (0-2) with three hits and a pair of RBI and Laney Gross also had two RBI.
Kiaundra Olson shouldered the loss in the circle, on the hook for 13 of the Laker runs, but only five of those were earned.
