Woman Arrested For Burglarizing North Webster American Legion
Staff Report
NORTH WEBSTER — A Warsaw woman was recently arrested after allegedly burglarizing North Webster American Legion Post 253.
Morgan Shepherd, 25, 1 EMS B37 Lane Lot 69, Warsaw, is charged with burglary, a level 5 felony; and theft, a level 6 felony.
On Feb. 13, a North Webster Police officer responded to a burglary report at the North Webster American Legion Post 253. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with a woman at the scene.
According to court documents, the woman said when she arrived at the American Legion, the alarm was not set but her office door was locked. No signs of forced entry were visible on the building’s exterior.
The woman reported $607 in currency was stolen from the organization’s safe and that a computer valued at $500 was stolen from her office. While speaking with the officer, the woman identified Shepherd as a possible suspect. The woman said Shepherd was recently told she could no longer work at the American Legion’s bar and would not be scheduled for shifts.
The American Legion Post’s surveillance system captured the burglary and theft on video. Two people are shown entering the American Legion around 3:50 a.m. Feb. 13 and disabling the security alarm. The woman identified Shepherd as one suspect by her clothing and mannerisms.
Video footage continues to show Shepherd and the second person retrieve the office’s hidden key and remove money from the safe.
Shepherd was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on March 30, with a $6,250 surety and cash bond.
