Altrusa Donates $4,500 To Nine Warsaw Area Elementaries

WARSAW – Altrusa International of Warsaw, Inc. has donated $500 to each of the nine WCHS elementary schools to be used for literacy-related needs at each school.
One of Altrusa’s key service initiatives involves literacy, and the Club recently found itself in a position to be able to make the $4,500 donations.
Principals Steve Ferber, Gateway Education Center; Melissa Rees, Claypool; Steven Boyer, Eisenhower; Matt Deeds, Harrison; Kyle Carter, Jefferson; Nathan Polston, Leesburg; Aimee Lunsford, Lincoln; Ben Barkey, Madison and Tom Ray, Washington, received $500 checks from an Altrusa Board Member the week of April 12th.
Altrusa International of Warsaw is a nonprofit service organization providing service to Warsaw and the surrounding area since 1973. As part of Altrusa International, Inc., based in Chicago, the organization focuses on literacy projects and education in addition to other needs in the communities they serve.
Locally, Altrusa founded the Beaman Home in 1985 and established CASA in Kosciusko County in 1992. They volunteer for and provide financial support for many other local organizations. Fundraisers are conducted to enable the Club to provide the support.
The donations were recommended by Altrusa’s Service Committee members including Jan Sloan, Chair; Cathy Cox, Co-Chair; and committee members Carol Vierling, Jacki Decker, Jeanine Knowles, Martie Lennane, Mary Garrett, Rosemary Laughlin, Sharon Sanders, Stephanie Booth, Susan Woodward and Vicky Patterson. The entire Altrusa Club membership voted to make the donations a reality. Altrusa members recognize what a tremendous impact Warsaw Elementary Schools have on their students and their families, and that fact influenced the Club’s decision to make the donations.
