Sherry Ann Slavin
Sherry Ann Slavin, 67, Churubusco, passed into eternity on April 30, 2021, and is now at peace, praising Jesus face-to-face.
Her battle with breast cancer in recent years showed her resilience and determination in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Despite the pain of her sickness, Sherry stayed strong and fought hard to the end.
Sherry was born on March 9, 1954, in Rapid City, S.D., to Bernadine Wirth (Karl) and Larry Brey Sr. She was preceded in death by her father, Larry.
Sherry worked several jobs, including as an EMT, but she found her passion working for the Keystone-Boyce team as a senior customer support representative until she retired.
The walls of Sherry’s home are covered with photos that capture her grandchildren throughout the years, and you couldn’t talk to her for very long without hearing a fun story about the grandkids. She was very proud of her grandchildren, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with them.
Sherry’s grandchildren will forever fondly remember trips to the Shrine Circus and the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo with Grandma Sherry along with all the fun goodies that would inevitably be part of Grandma Sherry’s Christmas celebration.
Sherry loved traveling around the state and having fun at work conferences with her good friends from Keystone. She also loved crafting, birdwatching and a glass of wine on her back patio, which she referred to as “her happy place.” Sherry was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her partner of 24 years, Alan Malcolm; two daughters, Jennifer (Lonnie) Fry and Michelle (James) Banister; a son, Paul (Caitlyn) Slavin; daughter-in-law Ellie Slavin; a sister, Cathy (Wayne) Hinds; a brother, Larry (Kathy) Brey Jr.; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Connor, Jackson, Adalyn, Luke, Samantha, Jonny, Michael, Vincent, Evelyn, Breanna and Bradyn; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sue Brey.
Her service will be held at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Tuesday, May 4, at 5 p.m. with calling beginning at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Christ Community Church, 316 N. Main St., Churubusco, IN 46723.
