WARSAW – Those overseeing the city’s technology park are working with a group that, by its very name, is more interested in the past.
A local tractor club known as Echoes of the Past, which often displays antique farm equipment, asked the city if they could farm some of the land that is part of the industrial park along the north side of US 30 on the city’s west side.
According to a letter presented to the city redevelopment commission Monday, May 3, Tom Groninger, a spokesman for Echoes of the Past, said they’d like to farm some of the unused property in hopes of funding some of its endeavors.
Jeremy Skinner, the city’s community and economic development director, told the commission he saw no reason that all of the land could not be used.
Groninger said the not-for-profit group would like to plant soybeans or corn on the land.
Skinner said there could be 20-30 acres that could be farmed.
No agreement has been reached yet, but the city will make it clear that farming would be scaled back if more land is lined up for development.
West Hill Development is a development company that has worked to develop the park with the help of the city.
The park is described as a multi-phase, shovel-ready business park that offers flexible lot sizes, underground utilities and offsite retention. It is also a certified technology park by the Indiana Economic Development Corp. and owns the land and has worked with the city.
