Mini Version Of Fat And Skinny Tire Fest Is Saturday

WINONA LAKE — The annual Fat & Skinny Tire Fest will take place this month, but on a smaller scale compared to previous years.
Although this marks the 17th year for the event, due to the downsized version, it is being referred to as “Fat & Skinny 16.5” or “Mini Fat & Skinny.”
According to the Fat & Skinny Tire Fest Facebook page, the KCV Board of Directors and Fat and Skinny Tire Festival management evaluated options for the 2021 event, after canceling the festival in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have consulted with our local community leaders and sponsors and have come to a decision to put on a truncated event this year,” one Facebook post reads, in part. “We have consulted with our local community leaders and sponsors and have come to a decision to put on a truncated event this year. While we would love to put on the full festival we have been known for over the past 18 years, we do not feel that we can properly do so in the current environment.”
The event normally starts with a Friday night opening ceremony and a critical mass ride; however, this year’s event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 22, with a Kosciusko Countryside Tour.
“The Kosciusko Countryside Tour is a casual bike ride of 12/19/39/63 and 101 miles that are mapped out and marked, and riders choose that day how long they would like to ride,” said Kosciusko County Velo Cycling Club Co-Founder and Board Member Greg Demopoulos.
The countryside tour starts at the Village at Winona, near Green Earth Multisport LLC.
“The only races this year will be the DINO Indiana Mountain Bike Series race, which will have multiple categories starting at 10 a.m. and going through the morning into the afternoon, finishing with the kids races,” Demopoulos said.
