WARSAW – Two members of Congress who represent Kosciusko County – Reps. Jackie Walorski and Jim Banks – voted against establishing an independent commission to look into the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot.

The House passed the legislation by a vote of 252-175  and it now heads to the Senate for consideration.

The vote comes after Republican leaders Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy announced opposition to the plan.

Thirty-five House Republicans voted in support of establishing the commission.

The only Republican member of the Indiana Congressional Delegation to vote in support was 9th District Rep. Trey Hollingsworth, whose District is south of Indianapolis

Also voting against it was Indiana’s 6th district Rep. Greg Pence, whose brother, former  Vice President Mike Pence, was targeted during the riots.

Democrats are seeking to create a 9/11 style commission to investigate the insurrection, which some claim was incited by President Donald Trump, who also opposes the investigation.

The violence claimed the lives of five people including a Capitol Hill police officer.
