Elizabeth Groscost
Elizabeth Brumfiel Groscost, 95, of Warsaw, Ind., beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on June 7, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Sarah Ann Beck, from a heart attack. She had been in failing health since the beginning of the year and suffered a stroke in May.
Born on Nov. 18, 1916, she was the daughter of Ira and Zora Brumfiel. She married George Albert Groscost on Aug. 11, 1937, and he preceded her in death in January 2004.
Throughout her life, Elizabeth was a devoted wife and mother, caring grandmother and great-grandmother, homemaker, and dog lover. She enjoyed chatting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, eating out, and relaxing at home. In the 1940s, she raised English Bulldogs and Chihuahuas and showed them in American Kennel Club shows. She was a member of the Methodist Church, and, in later years, she served as a paper carrier for The Paper. Although she was sad to lose her best friend and classmate last year, Elizabeth was proud to be the tough but tiny spunky sole surviving member of the 1934 Swayzee High School Graduating Class.
Elizabeth leaves behind her daughter: Sarah Ann Beck, Warsaw; her grandchildren, Christie Beck (Roger Aden) of Athens, Ohio; and Teresa Kane (Jeff) of Carmel, Ind.; and her great-grandchildren: Brittany Nicole Pangburn, Chelsea Meagan Pangburn, Emmy Grace Beck-Aden, and Ellie-Kate Beck-Aden, all from Athens, Ohio; and Phoebe Elizabeth Kane and Brodie Albert Kane, both from Carmel.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Handschy, and her grandson, Robert John Beck, Junior.
The family will hold a private, graveside service on June 16 in the Converse Cemetery. Visitation will be private. Pastor Donald Brenneman will officiate the service. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is handling the arrangements.
