Alton L. Gross
Alton L. Gross, 89, LaOtto, passed away on June 8, 2021, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
He was born at home in Allen County, on March 1, 1932, to the late Ernest and Mildred (Owen) Gross. He spent his formative years in rural Allen County, graduating from Huntertown High School in 1952.
After High School, Alton served in the United States Army from 1952 – 1954.
Alton was married to Marilyn Poe in Churubusco, Aug. 3, 1957.
Alton built homes for 50 years. He started with Perma Built Homes and retired from Carl D. Ray, Inc. In his retirement he continued his love for building on mission trips and for Habitat for Humanity.
He was a member of the First Wayne Street Methodist Church. In his youth he enjoyed square dancing. Later he served as a woodworking judge for 4-H and was a leader.
Alton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn Gross; his son, Gladden Gross; his daughter, Twyla (Greg) Hunter; ex-daughter-in-law, Janette Hughes; four brothers: Owen (Vera) Gross, Luther (Becky) Gross, Larry (Trish) Gross and Roger (Susie) Gross; his sister, Elaine (Rowland) Gilbert; a grandson, Samuel Alton Hunter; two granddaughters, Maria Ann (Michael) Emmons and Isabel Rose Hunter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ross and Max Gross.
Services will take place at Fellowship of Wesley Chapel at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, with calling one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 13. Burial taking place at Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco.
