CARMEL – Two schools situated just a few miles apart took on a Prairie View Golf Club course that is virtually just as close.
It showed in the scores as Carmel and Guerin Catholic, which are both just a few miles apart and down the road from the championship course, both shot 301 on the ‘home course’ to lead the field in round one of the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals.
The two are three shots clear of Center Grove and five of Zionsville atop the leaderboard of 15 teams.
Columbia City (312), Fort Wayne Dwenger (318) and Penn (323) are within striking distance as the three teams from the Plymouth Regional.
Peru’s Kash Bellar is the clubhouse leader in the individual championship race, the lone golfer to post an under-par score, carding a three-under 69. Columbia City’s Kam Hoag is tied for 13th at 75, and Northridge’s Brock Reschly shot an 87 in his first round as a solo individual for the Raiders.
Day two of the finals begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, where the championship will conclude.
