Demolition Derby Returns to Kosciusko County Fair

Sunday, July
7 will be
an evening of family fun as the Demolition Derby returns to the
Kosciusko County Fair. According to Derby Official Chase Collier,
this year’s derby will feature drivers from within and outside of
the community who will be participating in three separate classes
for prizes ranging up to $1,000. “Excitement has been building since
the announcement was made,” said Collier. “We have really felt the
support from the community behind us. We have local drivers
and drivers from the surrounding counties that will be
participating. With three classes and prizes ranging up to $1000,
we are expecting a great turnout.” In addition to the
show, derby sponsor and organizer Lewis Salvage is sponsoring the
raffle of a demo car, in honor of Shaun Owens. Owens, a strong
advocate for the derby, passed away in 2012 and was the inspiration
of its return. Raffle tickets for the 1996 Grand Marquis will be
available for $5 at both the June and July First Friday events, the
Fair Office and the day of the derby. The winner will be drawn the
day of the derby, prior to the stock class competition. According
to Collier, the winner of the raffle will not only get to keep the
car but will be permitted to compete in the derby. Derby cars will
be on display at both the June and July First Friday events.
Families are invited to stop by and take photos with their favorite
car. Compacts, stock class and modifieds will be included in
the derby. For those interested in participating in the derby,
registration information and rules can be found at lewis-salvage.com/demo or kcfair.org.
