ROCHESTER — Matt Craig, a lifelong Republican born and raised in Fulton County, has announced his candidacy for Fulton County Sheriff.

“Currently I am a senior deputy with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department where I began my law enforcement career in 2008. Along with being a general instructor as well as a driving instructor, I am also a Taser instructor and responsible for reviewing the department’s crash reports before they are sent to the state,” stated Craig.

“I am running for sheriff because I feel the citizens of Fulton County deserve a sheriff that is transparent, approachable and fiscally responsible. My beliefs are that it is important to be fair, not only to my fellow co-workers but also to all citizens, and in order to be successful, all law enforcement and emergency/disaster response department heads should work together regardless of their personal differences.”

After graduating from Tippecanoe Valley High School in 1997, he worked for the family business, Craig Welding, until joining the sheriff’s department in 2008. “My wife Julie and I have six amazing children between us. Ava 18, Logan 17, Kendall 15, Makynna 14, Bailey 12, George 10.

“If elected as your sheriff my goals are to ensure a safer community by implementing balanced around-the-clock coverage along with improving communications within the local law enforcement and emergency/disaster response agencies. Most importantly, planning ahead to protect and serve future generations and opening up a platform in order to allow people’s voices to be heard.”
