SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Redevelopment Commission approved a resolution acknowledging the application to establish the former Syracuse Elementary School property as an economic development target when they met Tuesday night, Aug. 17.
The resolution is the first step in Ridgestone Development Group, which purchased the building, seeking tax abatement. Ridgestone Development Group intends to convert the building into apartments. A request for tax abatement will be brought before the Syracuse Town Council in the near future.
In old business, Town Councilman Larry Martindale informed the commission change orders for the new ball field will be needed. After Council and Redevelopment Commission President Larry Siegel raised some concerns regarding having funds to cover the change orders, Martindale said some of the changes would result in cost reductions.
It was recommended Martindale have Beer & Slabaugh, which is doing the work on the ball fields, write up the change orders and pass them onto David Wilkinson, town manager, to be presented to council.
Vern Landis, town attorney, also recommended the project engineer review the change orders before they are submitted to the town council.
