Ivy Tech Proposes Tuition Increase
The current 2012-2013 in-state tuition rate for Ivy Tech is $111.15 per credit hour, the lowest in the state. The current technology fee is $60 per semester, but the school is proposing a tuition increase.
The proposed rate would include an increase of $5 per credit hour for each term (Fall and Spring) both for 2013-14 (starting with Fall 2013) and 2014-15. One dollar of the Fall 2013 increase will be allocated for student activities, a requested increase made by the College’s Student Government Association. The technology fee will remain at $60 per semester in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. The current out-of-state rate tuition rate is $239.40 and it will increase to $250.40 in 2013-14 and $260.40 in 2014-15. The current out-of-state distance education rate is $144.50 and it will increase to $149.50 in 2013-14 and $154.50 in 2014-2015.
Ivy Tech has annually had the lowest total in-state tuition increase of any school in the state. Since 2006-2007 the Community College has increased in-state tuition by five dollars or less per credit hour for a total increase of less than $25 dollars per credit hour over the last six years. During that same time other state schools have increased in-state tuition by as much as $3,000 a year.
Ivy Tech continues to take pride in being one of the most efficient institutions of higher education in the county. The Community College’s total spend per full-time student is less than $7,200. A study just this week showed that the national average spending per full-time student by public community colleges is nearly $13,000 and by public research institutions is nearly $36,200. The additional tuition and activity fee will be used to continue to assist the largest student body in the state in providing the necessary resources to ensure student success. Such resources may include additional faculty to allow for more course offerings, additional academic advisors, increased remediation efforts, improved technology and new classroom equipment to allow for real-time, real-world training.
Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system serving nearly 200,000 students annually. Ivy Tech has campuses throughout Indiana. It serves as the state’s engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana.
