Kosciusko County Reports Two New COVID-19 Deaths

WARSAW — Kosciusko County has reported two new COVID-19 deaths in the past week, bringing the county’s total to 129. The county has reported 10,522 positive cases.
According to the Indiana Department of Health website, the deaths occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 25; and Sunday, Aug. 29.
Locally, on the IDH two-metric and advisory level COVID-19 maps, Elkhart County is back in the “orange” category, with an 8.6% positivity rate. The county has reported 236 new weekly cases per 100,000 residents. Since its number of cases would categorize Elkhart in the “red” category and the percentage would result in a “yellow” category, the two are averaged together, resulting in the “orange” category.
Fulton County is now in the “red” category, with a 15.1% positivity rate.
IDH relies on a color-coded county map that measures percent positivity and new cases per 100,000 residents. The baseline for red is 15%.
Marshall County Health Department recently reported three new COVID-19 deaths. The deaths occurred on Thursday, Aug. 26; Saturday, Aug. 28; and Sunday, Aug. 29. Marshall County has reported 6,836 positive cases and 121 deaths.
Whitley County Health Department also reported one new COVID-19 death, which occurred on Thursday, Aug. 26. The county has reported 4,785 positive cases and 48 deaths.
Kosciusko County has a high community transmission rate for COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC’s website categorizes transmission rates in four levels: low, moderate, substantial, and high. The map shows that all of Indiana is in the ‘high’ category. About 94% of the United States is marked in the ‘high’ category.

More than 27,700 people in Kosciusko County have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
More than 3,107,000 Hoosiers are considered to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. According to statewide demographics, about 55% of those fully vaccinated are individuals who are 50 and older. About 53% of people fully vaccinated are female.
Statewide, the IDH website shows the number of COVID-19 deaths in Indiana rose to 14,078.
The total positive number of reported COVID-19 cases in Indiana is now at 863,299. More than 12,336,000 COVID-19 tests have been administered to Hoosiers.
Since the pandemic began, locally, Fulton County has reported 2,388 positive cases, Noble County has 6,763 positive cases, and Elkhart County has 31,328.
In other northern Indiana counties, Lake County has 60,173 positive cases; Allen County has 49,127 positive cases; and St. Joseph County has 39,568 positive cases.
According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, more than 642,000 people in the United States have died due to COVID-19.
