Area Cagers Contribute For All-Stars
TIPTON – Several area basketball standouts made strong contributions for their respective teams Wednesday night as the Indiana All-Star teams won a pair of exhibition games versus the Junior All-Star teams at Tipton High School.
The Indiana All-Star boys team posted a 133-111 victory.
Former Triton High School star Clay Yeo had four points and three rebounds for the Senior All-Star squad.
A pair of Notre Dame recruits, Demetrius Jackson and V.J. Beachem, had impressive performances for the winners. Jackson, who starred at Mishawaka Marian, had 12 points, a team-high seven assists and three steals in a starting role. Beachem, a Fort Wayne native, netted 18 points to go with four rebounds and two steals.
Zak Irvin, the 2013 Mr. Basketball and a Michigan recruit, led the All-Star team with 21 points.
Mack Mercer of Plymouth had four points, three rebounds and four blocked shots for the Junior All-Stars.
James Blackmon Jr. led the Junior team with a game-high 26 points.
The Senior All-Stars also won handily on the girls side with a 95-69 victory.
Taya Reimer, a Notre Dame recruit from Hamilton Southeastern, scored 17 points for the winners. Former Penn standout Taylor Lutz had a rebound and an assist for the All-Stars. Andrijana Cvitkovic, who played at Culver Academies, had four points for the winners.
Warsaw standout Nikki Grose had three points, two rebounds and a pair of blocked shots for the Junior All-Star team. Morgan Olson of NorthWood scored five points for the Juniors, who were coached by Michelle Harter of Warsaw.
The Indiana All-Star teams are set to face Kentucky Friday and Saturday. The teams meet at Freedom Hall in Louisville Friday with the girls game first at 5:30 p.m. The squads then clash Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis with the girls contest at 5 p.m.
