Elkhart Man Faces Theft Charges

WARSAW — An Elkhart man was recently arrested after allegedly stealing more than $800 worth of merchandise from the Warsaw Lowe’s store.
Jason Daniel McCord, 36, 3433 E. Lake Drive North Apartment C., Elkhart, is charged with theft and theft with a prior, both level 6 felonies; and theft, a class A misdemeanor.
On March 31, a Warsaw Police officer spoke with a Lowe’s employee regarding a theft that occurred on March 25.
According to court documents, the employee said on March 25, McCord entered the store with an empty shopping cart. He placed a sump pump and water heater into his cart and passed all points of sale without attempting to purchase the items. McCord placed the stolen items into his vehicle and left the scene.
The total value of the items stolen was estimated at $818. The store employee told the officer that he recognized McCord since store management has dealt with McCord in prior incidents.
After comparing a Bureau of Motor Vehicles photo of McCord and surveillance footage of the incident, the officer was able to confirm McCord was the person who stole the items.
McCord was previously convicted of theft in Elkhart County in May 2020.
For this case, McCord was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Oct. 20, with a $6,000 surety and cash bond.
