Brookpoint Holdings Inc.’s petition to allow an off-premise sign 10-feet from an intersection was approved by the Syracuse Board of Zoning Appeals.

While the ordinance requires a 250-foot setback, the sign was granted approval and Brookpoint Holdings was also given the go-ahead to allow an off-premise sign 400 feet from another off premise sign. The ordinance requires a 500-foot separation.

Brookpoint Inn is located at 100 W. Bowser Rd., Syracuse. The owners of the inn want to install an advertising fence on SR 13. The petition for a variance to allow an off-premise sign to be located 4 feet from another off-premise sign, where ordinance requires 500 foot, was granted approval as presented. The property is located at 1108 N. Indiana Ave.

Brookpoint Inn’s petition for an exception to allow the same off-premise sign in a residential district was also approved.

The Syracuse BZA also approved:

• Don Emahiser’s petition for a variance to allow a 3-foot tall fence to be located at an undeveloped right-of-way. The ordinance requires it to be a setback of 2 feet. The property is at 406 N. Front St. Emahiser wants to install a security fence for his dog.

• A variance was approved for Matthew and Megan Granger to install a 5-foot tall fence in their yard, where ordinance only allows a 3-foot fence. The Granger’s property is located at E. 613 Nokomis Dr., Syracuse. The couple want to put up a fence for their dog. Board member Larry Coplen said he rarely approves a higher fence, but with the support of nearby neighbors the case was approved.

Board members Larry Coplen, Dan List and Jim Allegret were present; Ben Pikerd and Larry Martindale were not. The board only needed three votes to approve or deny a case.

The next meeting is at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Syracuse Town Hall.
