Retired Tigers Elevator To Be Fixed
In January, StaceyPageOnline.com first reported that residents of Retired Tigers senior housing facility were stranded in their apartments due to a broken elevator (See story). Now, more than 5 months after the problems persisted, the owner of the building announced elevator repair work has been scheduled.
California Commercial Investment Co., which owns 4-story Retired Tigers facility on Main Street in Warsaw, was first contacted by StaceyPageOnline.com in January when elderly and disabled residents said they were trapped in their apartments because they were unable to walk down flights of stairs. The Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory had also been called to the facility twice in one week to rescue residents from the elevator when it became stuck.
Although no one would take credit or blame for it, the elevator was finally condemned, which left many residents of the 82-unit building unable to leave for doctor appointments or even to go downstairs to the main dining area. As the residents sought answers through the media when they failed to get help from the management, the elevator was brought back into service, but only on a part-time basis. (See story)
In January, Julie Dawson, regional manager for the CCIC, would only say that the corporation was aware that the elevator was broken and that parts were ordered to repair it.
In a letter sent to residents this week, work to repair the elevator is set to begin July 15 and could take until Aug. 19 to complete. During that time, residents will not be permitted to use the elevator. Residents are being asked to make arrangements with family members or volunteers to assist them while the elevator is repaired.
