WARSAW — A Warsaw man who stabbed his wife repeatedly in the face, head and chest, will be sentenced at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, in Kosciusko Circuit Court.

Juan M. Ramirez Garcia, 51, 340 E. Levi Lee Road Lot 139, Warsaw, is charged with attempted murder, a level 1 felony. According to Ramirez Garcia’s plea agreement, five additional criminal charges will be dismissed.

The plea agreement also states that Ramirez’s prison sentence will not exceed 40 years. A no-contact order between Ramirez, his wife and another woman will remain in effect.

In Indiana, a Level 1 felony carries a 20 to 40-year prison sentence.

Background on Case

On Feb. 22, 2020, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a stabbing report. The victim, Martha Ramirez, was covered in blood and suffering from a stab wound to the chest and several stab wounds to her face and head. She was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for her injuries.

When asked who the suspect was, a group of people pointed to Ramirez Garcia, who had blood running down the front of his clothing.

A witness at the scene said she woke up to the sound of a fight. When she went to see what was going on, she saw blood on Martha. She was able to take the knife away from Ramirez Garcia and separated the two from each other.

However, at that point, Ramirez Garcia grabbed both her and Martha by the hair and dragged them outside of the residence to the front yard. He then attempted to cut his own throat with a second knife.

Officers said the chest wound Martha received was deep enough to be life-threatening.

Ramirez Garcia has been previously convicted of intimidation and battery on a public safety official.
