WARSAW — A Plymouth woman who worked In the Kosciusko County Jail avoided jail time after being sentenced for trafficking a controlled substance in jail.
Jessica Greer Frost, 43, 17471 Tomahawk Trail, Plymouth, was sentenced on two counts of trafficking with an inmate, both Class A misdemeanors. The charges were reduced from felonies and another charge of dealing in a Schedule V controlled substance was dropped as part of a plea agreement.
Frost was sentenced in Kosciusko Circuit Court on Monday, Feb. 21.
According to a probable cause affidavit, an Indiana State police officer had learned that Frost, who had been a contracted nurse at the Kosciusko County Jail, had given a cellphone to Jonathan Fry, an inmate at the jail.
The officer learned that Fry’s inmate call history didn’t include calls between him and Frost and that he hadn’t been making as many inmate phone calls for a time as he had been making, suggesting that he had another way of making calls.
The officer also believed that Fry and Frost were communicating through a different source. The officer also was told that Fry and Frost were romantically involved.
On Nov. 6, 2019, officers and jail staff saw Frost remove Fry from his cell block and take him to the nurse’s office and shut the door.
They were inside the office for about 20 minutes. They were detained and searched after they left the office.
Seven gabapentin tablets were found in a folded and stapled paper cup inside Fry’s underwear. A pocket knife was found in Frost’s bra and a cellphone in her cargo pants’ pocket.
A cellphone charger was found in Fry’s cell block, but the phone that went with it wasn’t found.
Deputy Prosecutor Brad Voelz noted that Frost “violated” her position through the trafficking.
“She was in a position of trust … and she violated that,” he said.
Frost expressed remorse. “I’m sincerely sorry for my actions,” she said.
Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Mike Reed noted Frost’s “true and genuine remorse.”
He sentenced her to one year each for the trafficking misdemeanors, to be served concurrently at the Kosciusko County Jail. However, he also gave her a one-year suspended sentence, meaning that she is to serve her time through probation.
He also gave her four days of jail time credit.
